Reflection: Jesus and the Apostles provide us with yet
another lesson on obedience to the Father’s will. We see the Apostles being persecuted and
scattered about, yet they continue to preach the word. We remember all that Jesus sacrificed and all
that He took on in order to do the will of God.
These are great reminders to us of our own need to obey God and to do
His will. This is not always easy, just
as it was not always easy for Jesus or the Apostles. Obedience to God’s will may involve
suffering, sacrifice, and persecution, but it also involves joy and eternal
life. When was the last time you sat
down and asked God to show you His plan, and you trusted in His answer?
Reflection
for younger saints:
In today’s Gospel reading Jesus is talking about how all of His life was
lived to obey God’s will. The Apostles
are also obeying God’s will by teaching others about God, even though other
people are hurting them and being unkind to them for teaching about God. God asks us to obey and listen to His will
too.
Big
Picture: Trust in God’s
plan for you
Discussion
Starters:
Younger saints: What does it mean that God has a plan for your life? What does it mean to obey God? How do we know God’s plan or God’s will for us?
Older saints: When was the last time you sat down and asked God what His will was for your life? Did you listen to and trust in His answer?

Fun
Fact: Venial sins
are less serious sins that offend God.
For something to be a venial sin it must: not be seriously wrong, or if it is seriously
wrong the person committing the sin did not know it was seriously wrong or did
not consent to doing it (St. Joseph’s Baltimore Catechism No. 1, 2008, p. 33).
