 Readings:

Reflection:  In our society we can become so focused on competing to be the best in everything that we forget our gifts come from God, and we are not all called to have the same gifts.  We have all been blessed with varied talents so that we may help, guide, and delight one another.  How boring would it be if we could all perform the same arts and comprehend the same things?  God has blessed us all in different ways to make us work together, to help us learn from one another, and to make us a community of believers that is dependent on one another and on God, for all of our talents flow through Him.  Instead of being jealous or trying to compete with your fellow man, delight in the ways in which God has blessed them.

Big Picture:  We are all blessed in different ways

Discussion Starters:

Younger saints:  What is a spiritual gift?  (A gift that has been given to us by God.  This can be any range of talents that you might have).  What is a spiritual gift that God has given you?  What are the spiritual gifts that God has given you family members?

Older saints:  Do you find yourself always striving to outdo your friends and take on the spotlight for yourself?  We all struggle with our own selfish desire to be praised and to receive recognition.  What talents and gifts have your friends and family members been given that you have not?  How could you praise them and praise God for their gifts, rather than being envious of their gifts and talents?

Scripture Verse for the Week:  “There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.”  1 Corinthians 12:4-6

You are now entering the mission field:  Think of a special gift or talent you have that you could share with another person this week.  (Spiritual Work of Mercy:  To instruct the ignorant).
