Reflection:  “Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life.”  What are you striving and working for?  What are you making time in your day for?  Jesus recognized the love and the passion in the people who followed Him.  The world tells us to strive and work for possessions and worldly glory, but God calls us to seek Him first in prayer and in the Eucharist.  We will never find our fill and our happiness in things of this world.  Jesus saw the happiness and the “fill” that His followers found in seeking His word.  We find that same happiness and fulfillment in seeking God.  “Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord”, for they seek God first and strive for the glory of heaven that is to come.

Reflection for younger saints:  The people searched for and followed Jesus because he filled their hearts with joy and gave their life purpose.  When we try to love and serve God we will find happiness in Him just as they did.

Big Picture:  Seek the food that endures for eternal life

Discussion Starters:
     Younger saints:
Jesus tells His followers “do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life.”  What “food” does God give us?  How can we seek to follow and know God?
Older saints:  What are you striving and working for?  What are you making time for?  Are you seeking “food that perishes” or are you seeking “food that endures for eternal life”?

Fun Fact:  The first commandment of God is:  I am the Lord thy God; though shalt not have strange gods before me.  In this, God commands us to offer supreme worship and honor to God alone.
